“Seriously?! How am I going to have time to make my own gifts this year!?” I know I know. I get it. The holidays can be a very busy time of the year and sometimes all we can do is buy gift cards online and call our shopping “done-ski.” And I am a huge supporter of approaching your holidays with balance, not over-committing and stressing yourself out. However, there is significance when we take the time to thoughtfully plan out and execute our gift giving. Like in my previous post on DIY Gifts, I am an advocate for the made from scratch gift.
Read through this list and I’m certain you can find at least one project that isn’t too daunting and will appease if now wow someone on your list this year. Above all, have fun! Making your own gifts is a fun way to express your own creativity. It’s a win-win.
10 (more) DIY Gifts to Make Now!
While this might not be totally original, I think it’s still a great DIY gift to make this year. It’s super easy, requires minimal ingredients/supplies, and whoever receives it will most likely USE it. Nothing worse that getting something you don’t want or need. Not at all the case with Homemade Vanilla Extract!
I have been dabbling in alcohol inks. I love the way you don’t actually have to be very artsy to create unique and even impressive art using alcohol inks. There are a lot of alcohol inkers who are actually quite skilled, but it’s easy enough even beginners or kids can get on board! This DIY gift is a perfect, quick and easy project to make for your art loving friends and family.
I have been planning to make these for a few weeks now. Just need to buy my stainless steel mold and I will be good to go. Did you know Lush Bath Bombs are $10 a pop? Geez that’s a pricey bath. A homesteader at heart, why buy when you can make for a fraction of the cost? Bath bombs are great for both the bath loving adult and kids as well. Just make sure you use kid-safe essential oils or leave out the essential oils altogether if you are concerned.
I am sucker for shea butter. It is so rich, creamy, and the ultimate treat during the winter. Dry, chapped skin abounds during the cold months following Christmas. Do you friends and family and favor and make them this whipped shea butter. It’s amazing. You can customize with any essential oils, making it a great gift for anyone who appreciates a little pampering.
Oh come on. Candles don’t get more fun than this! DIY candles are great idea for gifting. Who doesn’t appreciate a good candle? Using soy wax and upcycled glasswear, you can impress even your most bougie friends and family. I would recommend adding 20-40 drops of your favorite essential oils to add a spa-like touch. And don’t be shy with that glitter. Because. Glitter candles!!!
I have been dying to make this blanket. This blanket is L-U-X-E. Made with all natural wool roving, the blanket is soft, chunky, and super cozy. It is a little steep in price though, so I might put it off and make it as a birthday gift for myself this February. If you are looking for wool roving for this project, expect to use anywhere from 5.5-6.5 pounds, which will easily run about $130 or more. However, buying the finished project on Etsy would be more than $500, so you are still saving a bunch of money on this luxury DIY gift.
This is a one-of-a-kind homemade gift. Not only is it fun and colorful but practical too. If I got one of these for Christmas, there would definitely be a smile on my face. And plus I would be excited for a chance to get to use it! Get in touch with your creative juices and make some art with the awesome, creative DIY gift.
This is certainly one of the more “skilled” DIY gifts on this list, but don’t let that scare you! With a few supplies and an old t-shirt or two, you’ll be able to make this cheap and creative DIY gift. If you get the hang of it, you could even make a set of nesting bowls! Super cute and fun to make making this an excellent creative gift to make.
I can’t take credit for the creativity of this idea. But I can remind you of how nostalgic it is to think about the ole’ floppy disk! What a way to ignite the nostalgia in a friend or co-worker with this quirky and creative DIY gift. If you need some help with prepping your planter for succulents, you may want to read a previous post on succulent terrariums I wrote earlier this year.
Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten about the DIY gift for the special men in your life. That’s why I LOVE this tutorial for a DIY Leather Tool Roll. It’s classy, excellent quality, and totally doable to make on your own. It can even double as a paint brush or crafting tool roll, for the artist or crafter in your life. Can’t go wrong here.
I might be one of the weird ones (most definitely I am), but I really enjoy wrapping presents. Especially to give them an added touch of creative flair. May this serve as inspiration to decorate with a little whimsy. Because the holidays deserve a little whimsy, you know?
Thanks for reading and I hope you have a wonder, crafty, creative holiday season full for love and light!
